My artistic vision began with the inspiration I drew from the Apollo astronauts' accounts of seeing the Earth from space, that ecstatic view of a living, miraculous, and fragile planet adrift in the cosmos.
This heightened perception of the Earth has been the driving force behind my art as it has evolved over the past forty years, from remote images of our planet (“earth scapes”), to more intimate landscapes, to my current series of contemporary icons of threatened and endangered species addressing the biodiversity crisis.
What underlies all my work is a deep reverence for Nature and a desire to ignite passion for the living world in others. Using diverse traditional disciplines and contemporary media, including egg tempera & gold leaf, pastel, encaustic, fiber and mixed media, my work aims to reimagine our relationship with the natural world and our role in it. Informed by evolution, cosmology and ecology, my work is devoted to the transformation of our sensibilities towards the Natural world on an emotional and cognitive level, to convey a sense of awe and beauty, and to inspire collective action.
