San Francisco Garter Snake Original Artwork - Center for Biological Diversity Fundraiser
The San Francisco Garter Snake is considered to be the most beautiful snake in North America. Though there are regrettably so many species to choose from, this one called to me first because of its unique beauty. To learn that their habitat has been reduced to such a small area on the San Francisco peninsula was all the more reason to choose this species to depict. Its preferred habitats have been diminished by agricultural, residential, commercial, even recreational development — so the Center is working to protect and restore habitat for this rare and unique serpent.
This is my first icon of 2024.
As with many of my contemporary icons, the Center for Biological Diversity has been a great source of inspiration and information; I frequently reach out to them for ideas about which species to depict next. I am happy to make this art piece available to collectors and members of the Center for Biological Diversity. As is my practice, I will donate 50% of the proceeds from the sale of my originals to the Center to enable them to continue to do their invaluable work.
